I've written a help guide on how to use microphones when doing public speaking - focusing on helping our missionaries who do presentations in churches. PDF document: Missionaries and Microphones (document last updated July 20, 2006)
For a number of years, the Wycliffe Dallas Center has struggled how to hold all-center meetings. The number of workers here can at times exceed 600 people, while the largest meeting room can only comfortably hold around 250. We've tried having the same meeting two or three times, so that everyone has an opportunity to attend and be informed. That wasn't optimal when Q&A was held. We now have all-center meetings off-campus, usually at First Baptist Church in Duncanville, or Hillcrest Baptist in Cedar Hill, which have sanctuaries large enough to accommodate the size of our group. GIAL (the linguistics school located on the Dallas Center) has been holding their commencement ceremonies at Hillcrest. We need facilities to handle large group meetings, seminars & conferences, worship, and special events. After consideration of expanding the Activity Center building, it was decided to instead expand the Dining Hall, attaching a new auditorium-worship center. The new worship center will hold 500 people + overflow, as well as having a smaller meeting room upstairs and space for future expansion of offices/classrooms downstairs. The initial earth moving began: From inside the dining hall, views looking west, and north:

Some 230 holes were drilled where the soccer and volleyball fields were, to install a geothermal system for heating & cooling the Hunt building and the new auditorium-worship center:
Everything has been approved, now we're waiting on final work from the structural engineers going to the steel work folk, to the concrete people, so that the foundation work can begin! (November 2008) Just as the foundation rebar was starting to be placed, construction on the Worship Center has been suspended! There are a number of potentially significant changes coming in the coming months. Email Ray for details!
